SUPPORTING OUR ATHLETES TO SUCCEED
The Academy is designed to enhance training and support at a local level for up-and-coming athletes pursuing sporting excellence. Underpinned by the principles of long-term athlete development, SWAS’s Athlete program’s primary goal is to enhance the elite level prospects of the South West region’s most talented youth athletes, by providing access to a high performance training environment locally.
It reduces the burden of travel to the metropolitan area for those already aspiring to the elite level of sport and creates new opportunities for future champions.
The Academy aims to develop the talent of athletes in their chosen sport and educate them with life skills such as nutrition, fitness, injury prevention and career counselling to hold them in good stead for a future in sport.
A team of allied health professionals and dedicated strength and conditioning coaching ensures our athletes are well prepared for the rigours of high-performance training and competition.
In addition to addressing sport specific needs, the program places great emphasis on the development of community-minded, humble, and self-sufficient youth, who always strive to be the best they can be.
Current Partner Sport Programs (PSP) of AFL, Cricket, Hockey and Netball are run in partnership with the relevant WA Sporting Associations and follow the sports endorsed talent and underpinning programs pathways. Athletes are identified and then invited to participate.
Athletes excelling in sports other than those included in the Partner Sport Programs and that meet the listed criteria are encouraged to apply for the Individual Athlete Support Program (IASP). Applications for the IASP Program open each year on the 1st April and close the 30th April. Athletes offered a place in the program sign an Athlete Agreement for up to 12 months.
