Partnership Offers New Talent Pathway

Swimming has become one of SWAS’ newest partner-sport programs, allowing more identified athletes to take part in the pre-elite program.

After a lengthy planning period, Swimming WA has invested in a new role, SWAS program lead, which allows the program to take in up to 10 swimmers.

Busselton’s Andrew Sexton was appointed to the position and will help in the program’s coordination while liaising with development programs.

SWAS executive officer Rachel Norman celebrated the achievement.

“We are excited to launch this new partnership with Swimming WA to add further services to more athletes,” she said.

“With already great development programs established, we can focus our funds on additional services in strength and conditioning, testing, recovery and more.”

The new partnership has allowed SWAS to increase its number of swimmers to nine, with seven new athletes in the 2024-25 program.

SWAS alumni Kyle Lee and Alex Saffy recently made their Olympic and Paralympic debuts respectively in Paris, with Saffy taking home a bronze medal.

The new partnership is set to see more South West swimmers join the SWAS program to prepare for the Brisbane Olympics in 2032.
