Bunbury apprentice plumber Meg Eichner has etched her name into the South West Academy of Sport’s history books by becoming the first weightlifter to be selected into the talent development organisation.
“I’m excited and hopefully more people get into the sport,” Eichner said.
No stranger to blazing a trail, when the 17-year-old is not raising the bar in terms of representation of her sport at the South West’s youth sports academy, she is smashing national records.
Eichner holds a number of titles for youth in Australia, has represented the State, and is recognised for her potential as part of the Australian Weightlifting Federation’s Pathway Squad.
Eichner, who trains at CrossFit South West in Bunbury, said mindset was an important part of being able to lift.
“You kind of have to block everything out, like you can’t think of anything else,” Eichner said.
“You just kind of visualise what you have to do.”
