Gold Medal a Ticket to Oceania Competition

A South West athletics competitor has shown she is one of the best young javelin throwers in the country at the recent national titles.

Collie’s Gemma Buckle won gold in the under-17 javelin at the Australian Junior Championships in Adelaide during April.
Demonstrating exceptional skill and dedication, Gemma’s dominant performance not only earned her the top spot on the podium but secured her qualification for the prestigious Oceania Athletics Area Championships.

Outgoing South West Academy of Sport chief executive Bernice Butlion expressed her immense pride in Buckle’s accomplishments.

“We are incredibly proud of Gemma’s dominant performance to win gold in the under-17s javelin,” she said.

 

 

 

 

“Gemma is a very dedicated athlete. Her commitment to her training and her willingness to travel to Perth for coaching is truly commendable.”

Buckle’s journey to success has been marked by her unwavering dedication to her sport.

Her rigorous training schedule and the substantial effort she puts into improving her technique have paid off, leading to this achievement on a national stage.

The entire Collie community and the South West Academy of Sport celebrate Gemma’s success and eagerly anticipate her participation in the upcoming Oceania Athletics Area Championships.
