West Coast Fever Head Coach Dan Ryan was in Bunbury on Saturday November 19 2022 to share the premiership winning team’s keys to success at a special breakfast event organised by the South West Academy of Sport.

Ryan was joined at the event by Fever players Emma Cosh, Jess Anstiss and Sarah Glasgow who offered up their insights to a captivated and appreciative crowd, while being interviewed by ECU Souwest Jets stalwart Erin Culane.

The Fever have earned the kind of success many young athletes dream of going on to achieve, thanks to the awe-inspiring historic win over the Melbourne Vixens in the 2022 Suncorp Super Netball Grand Final.

During the SWAS breakfast, Ryan relayed the three attributes he looks for in developing players – dedication and commitment, resilience and inner drive.

“Elite level sport is really challenging, it’s a rollercoaster and it requires a lot of resilience, hard work and perseverance to make it to the top level,” Ryan said.

“There’s going to be times when you get selected and when you miss out. You’re going to have some great times and you’re going to have tough times and the biggest challenge of all is around your ability to handle all of that, if you’re going to make it to the top.”

SWAS chief executive officer Bernice Butlion received positive feedback from attendees, saying it was a chance to learn and take away key messages.

“It takes a team,” Butlion said.

“It takes a whole team to win the championship.”
